Les Potes a Pouf virtual foster scheme is designed to help hard to home dogs leave the refuge. It also enables those who would like to give a lifelong home to a dog, but cannot afford to keep one, rehome one from the refuge.
A dog that leaves the refuge under this scheme will continue to be provided for by the refuge. This means that food, regular treatments (such as for fleas, worms and ticks), and any agreed veterinary care will be provided by the refuge, should the foster family want this.
For every dog that leaves the refuge under this scheme, there is a Virtual Fosterer who is contributing towards its upkeep financially. This enables those who would like a dog, but cannot keep one for practical reasons, to support the refuge by supporting their nominated dog.
Some of these dogs remain available for actual adoption if the right home comes along, though most will stay for the rest of their lives with the Foster Family.
The criteria for dogs that may be fostered in this way are:
- any veteran (a dog over seven years old)
- any dog which is over five and has been in the refuge since it was a puppy
- any dog with special needs (behaviour, health etc.)
The Refuge commits to supporting the dog for the rest of its life.
The Virtual Fosterer commits to donating 100€ a year or 10€ a month to the refuge for the duration of the dog’s life. We have a limited number of dogs available under this scheme.
